I'd warn him to watch out for his older brother.

This may be a Yankee particularity, but Steve Irwin was really well-liked in the States. He may have been seen as a "character" or even a bit exaggerated in his persona, but I know a lot of people who loved watching his show as kids.

There’s this great moment from an interview he did on MTV in ’91 where the VJ said something like, “Nine Inch Nails is kind of a funny name. Where did that come from?” and without missing a beat he quipped, “At least it’s not Toad the Wet Sprocket”. Apparently they'd been interviewed on air right before Trent came on.

Funny, I kind of felt the opposite despite how flat-out amazing their heroin dirges sounded. After all the self-mythologizing "cocaine/strippers/heroin/more cocaine" hair metal of the '80s, Layne Staley made one record that flat out said, "Being an addict fucking sucks". Dirt to me felt way more Tonight's The Night-era

I got "Dirt" around that age too, and went through a subsequent Alice in Chains binge when I was in 8th grade. "Jar of Flies" might be my favorite album from that period in my life, by far, and its languid feel and psychedelic use of wah-wah pedaling more or less foreshadowed my teenage stonerdom. I still love that

A music journalist - I can't remember who exactly - once wrote that "The best trick Trent Reznor ever pulled was convincing the world he was the Devil". The hilarious thing about him in interviews dating even from the early 90's, when his music was attracting the most controversy/hand-wringing, is that they revealed

So… he's plagiarizing Joaquin Phoenix now?

I almost downvoted your comment on reflex. Not because I disliked anything you said, but because the idea of listening to a constant barrage of Kid Rock and Ted Nugent nearly gave me an aneurysm.

I heard a theory that it's an oblique reference to how much cocaine Rachel McAdams' character allegedly puts away (or did in the past). Her character might as well be shaking white powder off her lapels, in other words.

I saw Massive Attack co-headline with Thievery Corporation back in 2010. Robert del Naja was in his mid-40s and had been making music for 20+ years at that point, and they STILL put on an incredible show. Same experience as you - easily one of the best live performances I'd see in a while.

Guys! Look! He wrote "PC propaganda"! Mark another sport on the bingo card.

And hire a sex worker while you're at it.

The last first war. The last war. The only war that matters.

That's disappointing. I was hoping your owner was more of a highbrow, New York Review of Books-subscribing RealDoll aficionado.

I think the difference is that handsome and/or charming men are more likely to be called an "asshole". "Creep" generally implies, to a point, social incompetence or something unappealing about the individual on a personal level.

Women having autonomy over and even (gasp!) ENJOYING their own bodies is enough to send some people into fits of misogynistic rage. Isn't it grand?

The Lord rewards those who take credit for the work of underpaid laborers.

Please don't talk about my hip that way. I haven't been able to gyrate with it since I slipped on Victoria's potato salad at the last megachurch potluck.

If it's any consolation, none of you had white enough teeth then either.

I watch these movies so I can better connect with the youth and dissuade them from a life of sin and collecting vinyl The Cure albums. Also so I can ogle Brandon Lee's abs, which are pleasing to the Lord in a totally non-sexually conflicted way.
