Is it as complex as 4X games?

How similar is it to 4X? That’s another genre I wasn’t interested in because of the historical/Sci-fi settings til I found Endless Legend which was sufficiently fantasy...but man is that a complicated genre.

If I like tactics games (FFT, Fire Emblem) and RTS, will I like Total War? Never was interested since I don’t really like the historical settings, but a Fantasy Total War? Totally piqued my interest
