You’re correct. If a disease takes you down hard and fast, you’re less likely to be going around spreading it. You’re likely symptomatic (people know to keep their distance) and very ill.

The number of confirmed cases is likely nowhere near the true number of cases. I’ve heard as many as 50% of cases are asymptomatic and 30% are mild enough that the patient won’t seek help. And that’s just those who are able to get a test.
