Um... Even Marx was pretty open about using the productive power of capitalism. We have an allocation problem. Nothing about fixing that would disallow Facebook nor Amazon from existing. And if you’re telling me Bezos and Zuckerberg wouldn’t create those entities if they could only be worth 50 million instead of 50

“Chevy Chase, medium talent.”- Bill Murray

But you kept that same energy!

But you’re also arguing how things should be, that actors should get special allowances to dictate who their coworkers are based on background information they aren’t legally entitled to.  You aren’t just stating the status quo.

What’s the logic here?  Do you fear he’s going to go rape someone because the scene set him off?

I agree with you. We’re so comfortable with the language of punishment, even progressives, that we see nothing wrong with something like this. If she had been making a claim against onset bad behavior and her costars were silent, that is objectionable. But for this? For something in his past that he was sentenced for?

But he did nothing to demonstrate he was untrustworthy. Isn’t this retroactive on her part? If he were a good scene partner then she’s reacting to what exactly?

They don’t have the right until they do. Saying they don’t have the right is a non sequitur. Is it beneficial to continually treat ex-offenders like offenders? Does it prevent recidivism? Make them better members of society?

I’m ambivalent about this. If our punishments are not sufficient in allowing someone full entry back into society then we need to change them. If this man had been a repeat offender or done something suspicious then I get it. But her saying because of his past crime, which he’s been punished for, his criminal record

I enjoyed Hotel Artemis and without Movie Pass I likely would have not have watched it in theaters.

And sometimes I wonder, how much of this is a cover. Maybe Steph already understood how to treat women as equals but those who would normally call him a cuck or white knight or whatever can’t because he’s speaking on behalf of his daughters. That relationship gives him authority to men that would otherwise ignore him.

You need both, all and more.  That doesn’t necessary mean they carry equal import nor is ranking them necessarily a call to not do them all.  Boots might just be a slack radical that didn’t express himself well or did and said something really myopic.  I can totally believe that, I’ve heard enough conscious rap to buy

Elected officials are more responsive to collective action than polls or voter turnout. Yes, you need the correct people in those positions but organized movements and local participation will be more important than voting at the national level. You should still vote, of course, but it isn’t enough. It sounds like he

Have black cops is not enough, the institution of policing is the problem. Just like having a black president wasn’t going to solve things.

“Structures not real!  I’m a free thinker!  I’m smart, I can do things!”

The racism as structural phenomenon was being written about in the 90's, if not earlier. Also, given the state of much of the race scholarship, the boom happening in the 50's/60's basically there was a paradigm shift that happened relatively early in said scholarship. That’s really nothing to clutch your pearls over

I wish discussions of appropriation had an a strong materialist grounding. Because it isn’t just about someone adopting elements of other culture. Often, when I think cultural appropriate, I think someone not only taking elements of a culture but being the only one allowed to profit from it as the originators are shut

Man, this season left me cold. New characters I didn’t care about that were just flat and uninteresting, entire story lines that were just narrative dead ends. The whole prison war being a ploy felt like it came from nowhere, was pretty empty as far as a twist goes and in the one scene the two shared a room

Whiteness needs no justification, it knows no hypocrisy, it feels no shame.

I want Tariq dead too, especially after the season premiere.  Why is this boy in grown folks’ business?  What’s so maddening about the stupid shit he does?  Unforced errors.  He could stay at home and play playstation, isn’t that what all these knuckleheads do?  He wouldn’t even have to leave the house.  How are you
