Allegedly, the idea behind hosting it in the US is to test the waters for a rumored merger of the Gold Cup and the Copa America, if so then this really isn’t such a sham tournament. Also the tournament used to be once a year and the schedule really didn’t get to its current state (or anything close to regularity)…

How is the Copa any different than say the Eurocup in format? This is the 1st year of it. so growing pains are to be expected. Also, outside of Brazil, which is understandably zeroed in on the Rio Olympics, what other countries haven’t sent their best squads?
