Couldn’t they have woken up more passengers and work out a rotational system?

I found a dinosaur size lifeform on the second planet I discovered. The size and look of a t-rex, but docile and an herbivore. Got attacked by this very aggressive crab thing on the last planet I visited. The thing was a complete jerk. So I named it jerkface crab.
