Even if the IDX reused the older 370Z platform it would have been a benefit to Nissan. The 370Z is in need of replacement and I really doubt it could be argued that an IDX would really be stealing sales from it. Hell, it could be used to help fund the investment into the next Z. Sadly, Nissan cannot see that.

Worse still, these are all wired up in such a way that swapping in an aftermarket system will cause parts of the stereo system (like amps that only work with the stock system) other systems to no longer work and some will even throw error codes

I would jump on that right now if only VW had built it. Same with the iDX. It really should not be that hard to get something like either of these built when you consider how much companies use a common platform between their whole product lines.

And tons of those Prius models with 300,000 miles have had their battery packs replaced or are in desperate need of it. It is a common wear item like any other battery. There is a thriving aftermarket on replacement hybrid batteries just for this reason.
