Personally, the atmosphere hit me home. The recordings you could find, the music, environment, EVERYTHING. If anything, atmosphere and setting are a big hitter for me in video games. If a game could make me FEEL the experience (emotionally) rather than just play it, then I'm sold.

Except that Halos 1 and 3 had the health-pack system with health that CAN'T really recharge just by standing still. Sure they still had shields, but they still had the underlying meter as the un-recharge health.
