I don’t think people are necessarily saying that her turn for the Mad Queen is unbelievable because it makes for a bad ending. At least that’s not what I believe. But the Targaryens who came from Old Valyria all those years ago conquered by being notoriously lenient with those who chose to support them, not by burning everyone, even the innocent. This is all very apt, and well and good, but it still felt rushed, as has everything from Seasons 7-8. If they had been able to play out the back half of her arc with the pacing and subtlety that they applied to the front half, I suspect less people would be complaining.
