@usfslacker86: That's more or less what I was getting at. The system itself will actually be crazy expensive, but Sony is gonna be stupid and take huge hardware hits on it again.

@EnigmaNemesis: ....this more or less proves out my argument. They are not selling it for 600 but only because the model they are showing will not necessarily be the model they are planning to sell.

Given that it is essentially sporting the hardware of a top-end smartphone and top end smartphones cost nearly $1000 unsubsidized, there is no reason at all for prospective buyers to expect a price below 400.
