Agreed. It makes no sense to set it outside of England, particularly since most of the setting of the book is a woman’s daily commute and how the train rolls by her previous neighborhood, reminding her of her previous life. Such a weird choice. There was no need to change it!

I read it last year and was thinking “I’m sure it was set in the UK” don't know why they had to make it set in the US.

I TOTALLY agree. For me the setting of England hugely factored into the way I imagined the novel unfolding so it will suck not to see that playing out on screen :-(

I wondered that as well. I live in Chicago and people do drink on the L but it’s done very surreptitiously. You can drink on our suburban commuter trains, and that's more common as you can buy big boy beer cans in paper bags at Union Station, but still not quite the same. Maybe it's different in NY?
