“I felt like if she felt like she had been raped, she would have told me,” Lavergne said.

A thought I’d like to add: there’s a huge difference between a child who wakes up in the middle of the night and comes into their parents room or needs to fall asleep with a parent present but in their own bed, and a child who as the author describes is “terrified to sleep alone”.

Chiming in with the chorus: don’t go. Don’t waste your money or your time. Don’t waste her money or her time. Don’t cause unnecessary drama by leaving after the first dance.

This exactly. But it’s Beyonce, so you’ll either get one extreme or the other.

Fortunately, in Ontario, the former is not required. We’ve even outlawed “ex-gay therapy”. It’s not a bad place.

Yup.

You are reading this as a double standard as you are employing some very false logic. She is certainly not being asked to take on every cause. Nor is she being asked to take something on because she is a woman.

I agree, and I also don’t think it’s unfair to single out someone whose idea of feminism appears, and very publicly too, to be that all other women must support her at all times.

You are very kind. Thank you. I wish I'd felt enough confidence to pursue the matter. My hope is that every woman get some support, stop fearing that very THICK Blue Line, and do what I didn't. Stay safe.

No one polices the police. The best you can do is sue the city they work for after the damage to you has been done. So there is no real personal repercussions they ever face in these instances. If they screw up, the tax payers pay for it.

Sometimes it seems like we’re going backwards. It’s like the “homosexicals are all pederasts!!!!1" all over again. Actually, some people actually still believe that.

No, it is not. I’m a cisgender man. In case you were wondering, google “trans man women’s bathroom” and Google Image search. That man started putting up those photos in protest of bathroom bills that would force him to use womens’ rooms.

No one, of any gender or sexual orientation, should be taught to be “scared of a penis”. If you’re supporting the idea that someone should be afraid of a penis, or a vagina, or intersex genitalia, then you’re a shit person. Generally, women and non-binary people that are afraid of men (broadly speaking) are afraid of

Find another way.

As a parent, I believe the best thing that could ever happen to your child would be for her to run away, citizen. I promise that when she turns up she will gladly be given over to another family who is not nearly as short-sighted as you and believes in equality.

In my son’s school, the bathrooms have completely closed stalls and are completely non-gendered. It works great ages 3 to 13.

Meanwhile, West Virginia University just got it’s first gender-inclusive/neutral bathrooms. You know you’re doing something wrong, South Dakota, when West Virginia is outpacing you in the progressive department.

Good thing a ton of places are simply doing away with bathrooms being gendered and moving to a unisex environment.

Here’s the thing: I teach at a university and have had transgender students in my classes. If a student is receiving hormone therapy and has for some time, it is very, very likely that that student can “pass” (which is an imperfect term, but you get what I mean) for the gender they’re living as. I would never have
