Same. Although I think more frequently than we’d like to imagine they might agree to it because they feel parental obligation or the idea that if they don’t agree to babysit they might never see their grandkids.

It’s terrible that they essentially dropped the baby-ball in this situation, but I think that a lot of grandparents (even ones that are generally exceptionally loving and caring towards their grandkids) don’t realize how little they want to raise kids AGAIN until they have to do it.
This is honestly so unfortunate. Not just that childcare costs are so high that even some families with more than one income can’t afford it, or that women who don't live near their parents might have to sacrifice work for child rearing. It’s fucking terrible that grandparents who should be at the point in their lives…
@People who may attack this critique because various governments in North America and Europe also collude with the corrupt governments of poverty-stricken countries (and they’re not specifically getting called out in this piece): it’s entirely possible to be horrified by Nicki’s performance and also horrified by said…
That’s fine. She doesn’t have to apologize if she doesn’t want to. But there’s now a blaring sign over her head (for me at least) that she’s one of those people whose definition of racism/offensive racial language is SO narrow that she can’t possibly understand that the skit she wrote is problematic. That seems worst…
Ahhh I’m sorry you’ve had to experience that. Like you said, it’s not blackface, but I don’t think it’s necessarily less offensive. I get that it’s a “cute” inside joke the couple had with each other, but they could have had the same weird family members do the exact same dance moves sans “Jew” costume with the same…
Yeah, I’m not going to claim offense for a group of people I don’t belong to, but wearing a fake tzitzit or applying payot seems unnecessary unless you’re actively trying to poke fun.
My parents (both biological) weren’t married when I was born and continued to stay unmarried with their separate last names until I was 8 when we moved from Australia to America (and being married to an American citizen significantly increased my dad’s chances of getting a greencard immediately after 9/11). I got both…
I don’t actually know if she identifies as queer, I think it might be an “I’m attracted to whoever I’m attracted to” situation so I may have jumped the gun using that word. So yeah, kudos media *thumbs up*.
I never particularly liked The Biggest Loser, or even Jillian Michaels herself, but I’ve always liked that her “celebrity” or whatever you want to call it isn’t significantly centered around her status as a queer person. I don’t know if that’s her doing or just an anomaly, but it’s still great.
I’m not at all into the comparison this article makes at all, generally because it seems really misogynist in and of itself to choose women with lots of followers on instagram as the subject of a conversation about female artists. But it seems like the point made about the “band girlfriend” is that they can end up…
Does anyone with extensive knowledge of the education system in America know if a teacher’s tenure can be revoked for things like racism or homo-antagonism? I know that it's really REALLY difficult to remove someone once they're entrenched, but actively holding beliefs that compromise your ability to do your job seems…
Honestly, the “High Five” analogy for consent is one of the best ways I’ve heard of explaining consent to children (or to anyone really). Kudos for spreading that one. Also, the importance of teaching children the proper names for genitalia cannot be reiterated enough in my opinion. I can’t tell you how many times…
Actually, my original comment was one of genuine interest and not willful ignorance. After doing my own previous google search, I found dick all to do with actual research and much more to do with perception and hearsay. Obviously my assumption that the military would be able to keep records of things like that, given…
Yeah, thanks for that asshole. The first page of links are to tabloid-style articles all referencing one original article by People that quotes “unnamed sources”. Excuse me if I don’t find that particularly convincing.
Right, I’m not claiming to have any idea of what happens within the social structure of any armed forces anywhere. I actively try to distance myself from all that on a daily basis. Data would just be preferable.
It does matter if the argument that women receive special treatment is baseless and grounded in intentional or unintentional misogyny. Also, as of August, 2 of the 8 women passed and a third was cleared to retake the course.
Semper Fi(t my dick into anything resembling an orifice all by my own damn self, thank you very much)!
Not that I don’t believe you, but is there any actual unbiased, quatifiable data showing that standards were lowered to accept more female recruits? If there is, I’d love to read it.
Yeah, I’m going to need to read the book that article references and get back to you because the article and its interviewees do dick all to do anything other than use the same circular reasoning they criticize against.
