The fact that he’s airing this is DISGUSTING.

Yeah, keeping your “black” jokes for white audiences doesn’t mean you’re not racist or even sensitive to the feelings of black peoples who might hear them. It means you are conflict averse and know damn well your jokes will get you in trouble if told to the wrong audience.

I’ve lately been witness to a rapidly spiral Facebook arguement in which one friend is trying to point out the privilege another friend has as a straight, white male. SWM friend is complaining and doing the whole “woe is the pilight of the persecuted white man, we can’t say anything anymore without getting

Thanksgiving ‘08, I went home and, at the table, Obama’s election obviously came up. And a relative said, “It’s just so weird to see someone like Obama wearing a fancy suit.” And I (coughing up corn) asked, “What do you mean by that?”

Back in those halcyon, naïve times of… um…a week ago, I used to argue that people would fail to acknowledge racism if it was anything short of people shouting “the N-word” and running around in klan robes.

And this is the problem with admonishing statements about how not all Trump voters are racist, and it’s counter-productive to say so. Not all Trump voters are actively white nationalist, Klan members, neo-nazis, and the sort of people who paint swastikas on churches or beat people up due to their ethnicity. But people

Yep. Why would you even begin to change your behavior if you seriously don’t see or understand that what you’re doing is wrong? And, like most things, you can only come to that conclusion on your own and not because somebody else told you so.

You absolutely see it in all age groups, unfortunately. It’s just less inexplicable coming from someone old enough to have lived through seeing and knowing about some seriously explicit and violent racism.

I didn’t say it was all or even most old people. Or that it was exclusive to old people. I said that you often see this mentality in people from older generations who do or say something racist. That they don’t seem to understand that it isn’t ok, because their perspective is still rooted in a period of time where

And the thing is, they have zero interest in understanding why their actions are racist, let alone in maybe being less so. You can explain why, say, calling black people apes is racist until you’re blue in the face, and they’re never ever ever going to Get It. Because if they admitted they understood, they might have

You see it a lot in much older generations, who lived through a time where “the racists” were the ones out acting on their bigotry in horrific ways. So comparably they don’t think of themselves as racist.

Personally, I don’t care if the FLOTUS has semi-nude pics floating about, especially if she was a model. But, this is a good time to remember that many of the people now praising Melania were giving Michelle shit over showing her bare arms just a few years ago.

I’ve come to the conclusion that these people believe that you can only be a racist if you proclaim yourself to be one. Sorry it doesn’t work like that, and if you have to say you aren’t a racist a lot, chances are you are pretty fucking racist.

I am boggled by the amount of racist you have to be to look at Michelle Obama and not see a classy, beautiful, dignified woman. Like that is her description in the dictionary.

Right? Can you imagine if a Democrat or Democrat’s wife posed nude? The Republicans would never shut up about it. But when a Republican’s wife does it she’s “classy.”

These people have power that they need to be stripped of. Others of their ilk need to know there are consequences, even in a post-Trump society.

Nobody being injured here? Are you a little black girl living in West Virginia?

You’re absolutely correct. If they aren’t out burning crosses on lawns, they don’t think they are racists.

These are the type of people, I’ve recently come to realize, who think they aren’t being racist because they aren’t overtly claiming they hate black people, and aren’t out lynching anyone.

NOPE. Comparing a black person to an ape is racist as f*ck. Saying any comparison of a black person to an ape “made your day” is racist as f*ck.
