Because no one in some Christian denominations or Jewish sects would ever repress women? Btw, two of the most populous Muslim countries (Indonesia and Malaysia) are secular and all women there aren't required to be veiled.
You're absolutely right: even with front-page news-making tragedy such as this, it's all about the sensationalistic headline, on this blog *and* over on Gawker, too (which opted to run with the exact same misleading angle).
Right; they've reached out with counselors and phone calls as well. But acknowledging that would mean one less sensationalist headline on this blog, so...
Yes, I've read that in the Times of London, too. Also, any family members not present for the official announcements in Kuala Lumpur or Beijing were notified via phone calls from the family support centres that have been set-up for the loved ones of passengers and crew. All this to say, there definitely was some form…
I believe some families opted-in to being notified via text. It also explains how they would have their cell numbers to send the text.
In fairness to Malaysia Airlines and the Malaysian government, they've done a good deal "more" than send a text message given that they'd already spoken to families of passengers and crew members prior to the text announcement and press conferences. Even in Beijing, an emergency meeting was called in the grand…
Update: Apparently interaction with families wasn't limited to text, which is good.

Seriously. Should be tied for No. 1 with Desmond.
Yeah, I find all this fanciful speculation super distasteful when there are family members still holding out hope that their loved ones might be found alive. I hope it's clear that I'm trying to critique the theorists here without leering at the tragedy itself or using it as a toy. :(
"But, again, it seems highly unlikely that anyone would be able to keep all 239 people on board from pulling out their cell phones and getting SOME sort of communication out."
I was going to post it. But seriously, this is very tragic. I am hoping beyond hope that they find everyone alive. This is so sad. I feel for those poor families.
I got my BRCA test a few weeks ago and am waiting on results. Even though I still don't know if I will test positive, my MD recommended increased screening due to family history. So I got my first mammogram found this month (I am 33), followed quickly by my first biopsy for a calcification they found. I am supposed…
