I know a lot more women (mostly, but also a couple of men) who have been raped and nothing was done about it than I've know 'crazy' women who would have threatened a man with a false rape accusation. Maybe you do hang out with the wrong people and/or your female friends who have been assaulted just haven't told you

My husband and I have decided to have our ashes pressed into a diamond and then dictate that our daughter much wear it to inherit our (sure to be) debt ridden estate.

Any bariatric surgery covered by insurance requires a psychological evaluation and waiting period, along with additional hurdles before surgery is ok-ed. And most of the out-of-pocket centers do as well.

Pretty much, yeah.

Per the article: "But we won't release the names of people who haven't been officially charged here. "

Trust, its not patience. I feel that, as a mod, I do have to censor myself a bit and watch how I respond to people. Its actually an excellent exercise in .. well, I'm not sure what you'd call it except 'building arguments that don't center on the words 'oh, go fuck yourself'. :)

Nope! Stuck around for several more months as he treated me increasingly shittily. But I was 15/16 at that time and credit that whole experience with a major feminist awakening, so I try not to feel too bad about my poor judgement in the matter.

Hypothetically, yes, it could have been rape.

I took the call reporting the incident (I worked for public safety) and I definitely had a moment of 'oh, some dude is getting beat up for raping a girl? Maybe the officers can take their time'. They didn't, of course, and they shouldn't have, and protecting him from the mob was the right thing to do, but I'd be lying

My first boyfriend, when I told him I had been assaulted by a guy when I was away one weekend, said 'You're just saying that to make me jealous'.

I don't disagree on the romanticized ideal of 'The One' being detrimental to both men and women, and the source of a lot of people's heartbreak.

These guys aren't complaining about casual sex, and this story isn't about casual sex, but thanks for your thoughts.

Pretty much this exact same situation happened at my college. A women was at a house party at the next house (on campus), said goodnight to her boyfriend and went back to her room to sleep. Guy left the party and followed her back to her house, went into her bedroom and raped her. She initially thought it was her

Exactly. I mean, one night stands or fuckbuddies or those things can be fun and all, and I'm not asserting that all women need some sort of deep emotional connection to have sex, but when you know someone doesn't even like you as a person, why have sex with them? Why reward them for disdaining you.

I definitely think that the 'women can have sex whenever they want' comes from this idea that sex is 1) paramount importance and 2) the real reason women exist. There's definitely a narrative in which men are supposed to seek out sex, and women are the gatekeepers that allow or deny them access, which leads to this

Boom. Exactly.

I disagree with that. I think that's an assumption that's built off the back of the idea that women's role is to be available for sex, whenever its wanted.

I appreciate the apology.

How old are these guys though? I think there's a certain amount of understanding giving for falling into the 'nice guy/gal' trap at a certain age, but if you haven't learned that lesson into your 40s?

You're very mistaken if you think all women have had access to all the sex they've ever wanted since adolescence. No one, and I mean no one, gets ever sexual partner they've ever wanted. Even the beautiful, the wealthy, and the charming.
