So what? This took place in the US, with two US citizens.

I kinda want to practice my kissing on that Prince photograph.

That is so awful for you. And sadly so common. I know too many women who could tell a similar story.

We're all volunteers. Part of it is that I believe in this community, which means I believe that everyone here deserves a decent space to interact in. And on the other hand, it is so satisfying to delete that crap. So very satisfying.

Honestly, when he disappears for a couple of days, I always assume its because his mom's grounded him from the internet.

It's one think when you talk about societal sexism or institutional, or you know that there are people out there like MRA that really hate women, but to be exposed on that kind of personal level to them can be really shocking. Its hard to believe in this day and age that kind of deep hatred for women, or for women

It's true. And they definitely set a tone. I used to participate in a private gaming forum where the moderators were total assholes. They set the tone on who it was ok to harass and abuse, and everyone followed from there.

Or to Philly.

Please report anything of that nature to trollpatrol so I can deal with it:

What an interesting and timely article, Katie. I've spent a lot of the last couple of days thinking about the way women are treated on the internet, especially how we (Jez) will receive and influx of commenters/trolls who come here just to harass the largely female commenting base, purely because they are women.

I don't remember that bit of the story, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the fanfiction plagiarizing was true — I mean, if you're willing to steal huge pages from a published novel, then taking from the work of unpublished authors without a publishing house and fan base could hardly seem like a big risk.

I know there's whole swaths of people out there who just don't think it's a big deal to steal entire pages of someone else's work and claim them as their own. Its the kind of thing that really pisses me off, because its dismissive of how hard the creative process is and that writers work hard to get to that finished

I think either she or someone from the publishing house is trying real hard to scrub the internet of the story. If you look at her Wikipedia page, any time someone adds something about the controversy, it gets removed. Luckily there's some people who were involved in it who posted extensive accounts of what happened

She wasn't a teenager. She was an adult at least in her late 20s or early 30s when it happened and working as a professional. This isn't a kid making a mistake.

You should be able to find the story very quickly. The plagiarism complaint isn't about her using her own works and rewriting them, it's her lifting chapters from Pamela Dean, lines and plot points from Buffy and other television shows, etc, without giving credit. The Dean stuff is incredibly damning, since it's not a

You didn't see Invasion, did you?

I can't believe Lifetime hasn't gotten on that yet. I would watch the shit out of that story.

I really love that red-on-red suit. So striking.
