The problem with raising gas taxes is that most states and the federal government don’t spend all of the money that they get from the current gas taxes - some of it gets put into the general funds. So there is a good chance that the added taxes will be diverted, too.

Speak for yourself. I’m 62 and have no problems getting in, out, and driving my Miata.
Mediocre sales of the BRZ/86 show that small, low powered coupes isn’t the way to go.
The Miata is grown up the way it is, and making it a coupe ruins it - there are other choices for you, no reason to compromise the Miata into something it isn’t.
Compared to the NC PRHT, the ND RF is a failure. The RF has most of the top up blind spots when the top is down, and there is more air turbulence when driving with the top down. Plus the NC top is a bit simpler mechanically, so it may be more reliable than the RF. And the RF adds more weight to the ND than the PRHT…

Miata sales are up because this is the first year for the RF. The previous generation Miata had half of its sales with cars ordered with the PRHT.
If ugly front ends were the problem, Lexus would never sell a single vehicle.
