I’m not sure that’s the cynical perspective. I think McCain did everyone involved a favor. The GOP wants to put this healthcare debate behind them and go after the real enemy (LGBT and tax cuts for the rich), the Dems want to sustain the Obama legacy, and poor people like us just want to live.
