In the second issue of Byrne’s regular run (post-Mand of Steel), Lex Luthor throws all his IT resources at discovering Superman’s identity. His tech comes up with the answer ‘Clark Kent’. Luthor immediately and angrily rejects the answer, fires the tech and destroys his research. In his mind, it’s simply impossible

When Mark Waid was on JLA, Superman and Batman still kept their identities secret from a few members. When he did an arc post-Tower of Babel and they revealed their identities, Kyle Rayner specifically said “I didn’t think he had a secret identity.” A lack of mask is a great mask.

Right, I would imagine most people who see Superman would never think of him as a regular person. “He’s a god who can fly anywhere in the world in a few minutes and do anything he wants, why would he ever want to live like one of us? When he’s not here saving us in Metropolis, he’s probably on the other side of the

That’s an interesting point about “why would people assume Superman has a secret identity”. It’s not like you see everyone in comic book land wondering “who is Professor X’s secret identity???” or “who is Black Widow’s secret identity???” (I know they’re Marvel characters, I’m just using them as an example). If they

As a person who works in healthcare, yeah that camera was probably the world’s biggest fomite. Who knows where it has been shoved, and what it has touched.

Wow, talk about an overreaction. I get not allowing cameras on the belt, but banning photos altogether no matter what? Geez.

The restaurant can’t control the cleaniness of the camera, it could be rolled around in muck for all they know. He needs to demonstrate that his camera is clean before this was acceptable, but that would require asking permissions which he clearly didn’t do.

There’s a small but important difference between “being on camera in public” and “having a stranger’s GoPro passed within a foot of your face—that you’re currently stuffing—without your consent” especially with the camera basically being *ON* the tray carrying your food.

Filming other people without permission is a serious problem with legal consequences in a whole lot of places, including the west, and Japan is stricter about privacy.

The faces weren’t blanked out in the originally posted video. Used dishes don’t go back on the belt (that would be gross), signs are usually plastic or laminate so can be cleaned. There’s not much you can do about the other things but you can definitely avoid putting potentially dirty shit on the belt.

The guy that filmed this video has lived in Japan for a while so doesn’t get to play the ignorant tourist card.

I think this is really about respecting the privacy and hygiene of others. It’s not really expecting everyone to follow a long list of customs, but rather a strong but rational reaction to a foreigner pulling a stunt that potentially invades the privacy that you expect when eating at a restaurant.

It’s really easy. Don’t be a loud obnoxious douche and you’ll do just fine in Japan.

Living in Japan for so many years has made it so that foreigners like me have to answer questions asked by Japanese about foreigners like him. There’s always idiots that just have to push the boundaries and just refuse to try and understand Japanese social rules. Most are unspoken, but these particular foreigners need

Not all school shooters have been bullied and I’m not sure if that was true for this shooter. It often turns out the shooter was the bully who had a rage problem. And many tried to intervene and it didn’t work. It kind of boggles my mind that you are shaming these kids for protesting that many, many guns were

Going wonky doesn’t become a bloodbath if you don’t have access to guns.

It’s already victim-shaming time in here? Wow.

Teacher here.
They’ll address it by using the posts of vainglorious kids posting up on their social media feeds who have no idea why they are walking out, or by interviewing a few kids like that.
The correct response to this is to get out videos of kids who know why they’re walking.

Crazy finish to that game. Warks was batting, tied at 158 with one ball left. Rikki Clarke hit a ball right to a fielder, and Dan Christian who was bowling for Notts, had an easy run out to preserve the tie (no super overs in NatWest T20), but he dropped the ball as he was trying to take off the bails, and the run
