I'm not going to spend any more time debating gun control with you since you are arguing from emotion and not logic. Perhaps we can engage in a dialog another time when the topic is not so emotionally charged. All I can leave you with is people will always figure out ways to harm people even if guns did not exist, so

I feel you. If the community acts like idiots it seems like we will be less likely to get these cool Q&As in the future.

That was meant to be playful but I suppose it came off as snarky :).

Do you plan on answering questions today?

I'm beginning to think it's mostly juvenile people with no real world experience who are bleating for this magical weapon ban.

Let's not change the subject. You said we need gun control. I gave you an example of how we indeed have gun control, or at least where I live. The ball is in your court.

I had to submit an NICS background check to the FBI in order to purchase a shotgun for home protection. Do you consider that to be gun control?

I think you touched on an interesting aspect - there are geographic and demographic factors that influence the commonality of firearm related crimes and how successful varying degrees of legislation are on controlling it.

What about people who hunt for food, or simply want to protect their homes?

Those are two very different motors.. I'm curious about the dynamics with front and rear wheels running on different power curves.

Hi Julie,

No doubt. I haven't messed with Unreal since college, maybe it's time to give it another look. I've mostly worked with XNA and some other proprietary APIs lately.

I don't think custom engines are a necessity if you have programming skills. A game engine like Construct can be useful for even software developers if it suits their needs and easily allows for customization where it doesn't. Unity is one that comes to mind.

I know what I'm playing during my lunch break today :D

If your goal is to make games, why not just get started with Javascript and HTML5 canvas? You can get up and running very quickly. It's way more practical for that as opposed to Python or Ruby, which typically run server side. AS3 is cool but flash won't be practical for games too much longer.

That is one of the weaknesses of game maker type engines. They are tailored to specific genres - like platformers or shooters. Once you think of unconventional mechanics, you end up having to program it yourself anyway.

That's actually a great way to do it. Or make pixel style sprites so you at least have something interesting to look at, and then have somebody come in and update the graphics when you are ready for it. That's how I work at least.
