The confusion happens because Spain occupied the Philippines for about 350 years resulting in many Filipino people of Spanish descent. (And there’s always confusion re: Spanish vs Latino.)

Lots of Filipino people are of Spanish descent, due to Spain’s occupation of the Philippine Islands for over 300 years. The Philippines were part of the Spanish East Indies until about 1900. So not Latino, but Spanish.
