Lane split if speed differential is < 10 mph and under 40 mph; personally I would only ever do on off ramps, etc where cager traffic is stopped or mostly so....

How about that people tend to drive in the ruts in snowy conditions? That is, on the already exposed tarmac, for traction reasons.
As someone originally from the North Island of New Zealand and now living in Colorado a Native Coloradan gave me three excellent pieces of snow driving advice:
If you have an AWD/4WD especially, in a manual or an automatic vehicle, slow down by downshifting gently, and then lifting your foot off the accelerator slowly, aka engine braking - that is, stay off the brakes as much as possible, slow and gentle as above :)
