Well, that was a delightful flashback to an AV Club of yore I had almost totally forgotten about about, thank you.

thank you, was gonna be so disappointed if this comment didn’t make an appearance

wtf is starz lol

party down might be my favorite show of all time so, while i wouldn’t say i’m looking forward to this or that i have high hopes, i will still probably be disappointed if it’s anything less than great.

Zaslav was head of Discovery prior to the merger, right?  He’s the one that transformed it from high brow education stuff to cheap-as-dirty-reality-trash.  He’s a one trick pony trying the same method on HBO?  Maybe?

Or, you do what good writers have done since the beginning (obviously, they haven’t all been good writers) and give him problems he can’t punch into submission.

Wow, never realized Lex Luthor wasn’t depicted as a businessman until the late ‘80s. It seems so integral to his character!

Now I’m picturing one specific town in Mississippi where everyone sounds *exactly* like Daniel Craig in the Knives Out movies, and it turns out he’s doing the most startling impersonation of an accent in cinema history.

Pretty much, yeah.

If they can turn a one-room play that’s mostly internal dialogue like Gerald’s Game into an excellent film, then I’m going to give them benefit of the doubt that third time with Dark Tower will be the charm.

There’s one and only one good reason to watch the movie: Roland does the reloading trick.

I’ve been hurt too many times before.

I’ve complained before about him taking source material that worked perfectly for standard-length feature films (a format he’s done good work in) and then warping it into multi-episode miniseries, so I’m glad to see he’s now applying serialization to the right material. Plus, this means no reason to watch that Dark

Fair enough, but the ways they deployed those elements were masterful. Yeah Goose’s son plays GBoF, but Maverick only sees it from outside the bar, literally on the outside looking in. Rooster’s mustache and love of the song is a tribute to his father. Maverick gets sent back to Top Gun not because he’s such a

I’m in.  He and Darabont understand the source material.  I still wish we could see the unaired Amazon pilot which covers much of Wizard and Glass.

Maybe not so much anymore (that’s still debatable) but definitely back in 1989, which is when the movie the reviewer shits on took place.

Fact is. Chadwick Boseman took playing Jackie Robinson into becoming Black Panther. And that Robinson movie doesn’t get made if Harrison Ford doesn’t agree to play Branch Rickey

I will listen to arguments that stories about black soldiers no longer (and never should have in the first place) need white central figures like Shaw. Ebert said that in his review of Glory.

But I’d counter with this: Because Ferris Bueller and Westley from Princess Bride agreed to be in a movie, Denzel got an Oscar

Also, the famous Shaw neighborhood in Washington DC, often referred to as Black Broadway because of the historical Black live theaters located there is named in Robert Gould Shaw’s honor.

We would not have his body removed from where it lies surrounded by his brave and devoted soldiers. ... We can imagine no holier place than that in which he lies, among his brave and devoted followers, nor wish for him better company. – what a body-guard he has!”

Robert Gould Shaw was the white colonel’s name and he actually existed, led the 54th, died with them and was buried with them.
