As someone who's not all that impressed with the "Jay and the cops framed Adnan" theories in general, I do have to say that the informant angle does at least make some things that seem super far fetched make much more sense.

But I believe the literature on memory would suggest that the fact that he was asked, and prompted, and cued, and given reasons to think back on the day almost immediately and continuously thereafter, would suggest that it's likely he'd have fewer pure "I don't know" responses.

For me, the problem with that theory is that if the cops were hot to just lock up whoever they could manage then by most measures Jay would be the person they'd pin it on.

You do great work, Anon21!!

Yeah, in the end I find myself thinking that if Adnan had got convicted for 2nd degree murder with the possibility of parole in 10 years or so, I could have gotten behind that and wouldn't have to fret too much about the jury's decision.

And there's no way for me to say that yours is any less valid of an interpretation than my own.

I don't know, he did elicit genuine sympathy from me for what he's going through, whether he's guilty or not.

"But by hypothesis, Jay killed Hae. If so, he has an immediate motive to lie, unlike the innocent person harassed into a false confession by the police."

That is legitimately fascinating. I'd have bet my house "pouring" was correct.

Judging from your posts we differ a bit on the "who's guilty" question but I still could not agree with you more!

I think 3 hours would be an awfully short period of time to go from 0 to 60 with a witness though.

But, ummm, isn't this the internet?

I can't help but think that this is largely an internet level phenomenon (that is, the specific issue of hyper-hurt feelings about pronouns directed at otherwise well meaning people).

This is all winding down and I agree with the bulk of what you've posted here. The one thing I don't think we can necessarily blame CG for though is Asia. It's possible the murder actually took place at or near the library (I can't recall the details but that's been put forward as one plausible alternative to the

Interesting background. Your last line gets at what I was trying to specify though, which is that while being Muslim wasn't relevant, being from a very conservative family/culture might be. Uber christians would in fact be quite high on my list of people who I'd consider likely to have tweaked impulses regarding sex

I agree with you that the specific "honor killing" and "those controlling Muslim men!" angles are entirely off base, but I do think there was some potential relevance to his cultural/family background. Teenage boys are half insane with jealousy when it comes to dating as it is, throw in the whole "you're not even

Not before 9/11 though.

REM super fans are the very worst kinds of music snobs, because the band they idolize is, when you get right down to it, pretty unchallenging and no less tied to white-college-kids than lots of other bands they consider beneath them.

In fairness to DMB, nobody could possibly have predicted the broad and enduring appeal of a fiddler and a sax player backing up a yodeler.

Anyone who finds any REM album "too loud" or "too rocking" should probably stay indoors so as not to risk damaging their sensitive unicorn wings.
