Learned of the Boom Boom Satellites via Ridge Racer, man... memories

The brake pedal (and brakes) on the Hilux worked fine!

I learned to drive on a farm in rural Australia in a 1996 Hilux 4x4 with a NA diesel engine (I forget if it was 3.0 or 3.2L) - not unlike the one pictured below. I was maybe 9 or 10 at the time (farm kids, lol); but I have three memories of that thing:

I used to run a horse-drawn carriage in a downtown that had these monstrosities, and let me tell you:

I went to the Sydney Motor Show in - I want to say, 2001 or 2002, and saw the reveal of the new Monaro. I’d never seen anyone so excited about a car - there were so many people swarmed around it that I never got close enough to even take a photo.

Today I learned that in 2003 the fast food company “Sonic” began printing out their own money to pay their workers. This led to a huge inflation in the economy and was one of the leading factors of the 2008-2009 recession. Would highly recommend looking up Sonic Inflation on google if you want to learn more.

This one’s a classic from the Obama years, but still perfectly accurate:
