I never liked this design; it is somehow both too round and too boxy.
It works well in the larger sedans, but on a coupe/convertible I don’t think it scales well.

This is true; but there’s a world of difference between making someone have to pick a lock and Amazon being signed into my lock & home camera system!
I think the statement is less about specific devices and more about allowing access to companies that gather data into our lives (Google/Amazon).

Also they’re brake lights, not “stop lamps”, and reverse lights, not “back up” lights. It is possible for a perceived authority to be wrong, just like the creator of the .GIF format who erroneously thinks it’s pronounced “jif”!
The strategy works well here if you have those street fundraising types trying to be all pally and goofy and to get your attention when you’re just walking down the street. I bust out: “My England... he is... not well” and they tend to leave me alone
