for real, though, my buddy had an MK5 R32 with the DSG, and I was always in awe of the fact that they’d shoehorned that engine, transmission and AWD system into such a tiny space.

I don’t know; the R32 sorta feels like it’s playing in a different league. One where ride comfort, interior quality, fit and finish (and rattles) matter much, much more...

Agreed; but I will say this - I hated the current Prius from every angle when it first launched, but its rear lighting arrangement has grown on me.
