I like Modern Warfare one. After that, it all felt like it was repeating itself over and over and over, with minor exceptions to Black Ops, which just repeated both itself, and the MW franchise's multiplayer.

You can't totally dismiss that it forces player migration to the next game, especially when they move most of the online support to the newer ones. It's not the whole reason obviously, but it's a trie and true business tactic.
