Make Your Own Kind of Music for Desmond and the Hatch.

I spent the weekend in Austin and couldn't help thinking what a perfect backdrop it is for his movies, but at the same time how much our sense of what Austin is, as a city, has been enriched by them. Dazed & Confused is obviously the definitive Austin movie, but even one of Boyhood's most elegaic sequences benefited

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend! it's the best comedy since 30 Rock. (Matt Zoller Seitz called it the best show on TV, period).

but it's a staff of TRUTH

The Howling Man in the titular season 2 episode of The Twilight Zone. He looks just like an ordinary man and spins a harrowing story about how he was imprisoned in a Romanian castle by a group of religious fanatics. The story is queasily persuasive, playing on the audience's sympathies and prejudices. It's probably my

the one who gave that ridiculously long speech tonight, definitely. though I'm also partial to the Satan depicted in the Hammer Horror film The Devil Rides Out (a literal goat who throws parties in the woods and explodes at the sight of a crucifix or fast-moving car). and John Huston's devil is kookily delightful.

I remember everyone in seventh grade talking about it in gym class. *sits down in rocker, lights pipe*

the Emperor's New Groove, the Lego Movie, a dozen other animated comedies.

Google confirms that The Emperor's New Groove came out in 2000, so it should *definitely* be on this list. one of the greatest comedies ever.

I love the 1995 Pride and Prejudice (though they're both great), so it frustrates me to no end that the greatest line in any P & P adaptation is only in the 2005 version. "Potato? why, it is an exemplary vegetable!"

*films this comment and adds it to the list*

where's THE LEGO MOVIE

I actually skipped a lot of the first season my first time through, but everything from Bad Dreams (1.17) on is worth seeing.

And I love too how that line mirrors the thematic concerns of the whole episode. it's a neat parallel with the scene right before it where the marionette guy finally succeeds in bringing his beloved back to life, only to realize that when he looked into her eyes, it wasn't her. he confesses this to Olivia, who

White Tulip is absolutely one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen.
it's my go-to episode for introducing newbies to FRINGE.

There were times when FRINGE was hit or miss, but the run of episodes from "Peter" in Season 2 to "Marionette" in Season 3 is nearly perfect. For a brief and glorious moment it was rivaling LOST at its best.

the first Hobbit movie is going really well until Bilbo and the Dwarves leave the Misty Mountains. everything that happens in the two and a half hours leading up to that is GREAT. and then it just keeps going… for 15 minutes… getting worse and worse… until I lose any feeling of good will I had towards the movie.

Season 4 is where The Office started turning into a nightmare version of itself, which was a weird and intriguing direction and I wish they had explored it further.

I don't have much use for anything that happened on The Office after Michael left. The end of Season 7 is my cut-off.
