@numo16: No, I'm saying it is necessary for Apple to grab enough of the Kindle and Nook markets to make them economically untenable. This means they get to dictate terms to the publishers who will have no recourse. The economic effect of that decision USED to be why the Justice Department litigated monopolists -

But seriously, the reason for this is obviously to go head-to-head with the Kindle/Nook market for those who want to primarily read novels (easier to hold for long times, and fits in purses - women buy more fiction these days than men).

Then, in a cobranding campaign with their partner Starbucks, they could market the iTall (AKA iPhone), I Grande (the 7" iPad), and the iVenti (current iPad),

@beanperry: I don't think we should make teens criminal for their sexual choices. Most places in the U.S., high school kids having almost any form of sex are engaging in criminal behavior. How can we make laws that are violated by the majority of our citizens but enforced selectively?

@jaiku: There are some jurisdictions where writing that is a criminal offense.

How did they test female child sex offenders?

What used to be considered child sex exploration, and might have called for a spanking, is now labeled as sex offenses tainting the person for life.

@Isostar13: I thought that's why men got married!

Can I correctly infer that this means 79% of America can read to some extent? I thought illiteracy was higher. I bet this only polled households and not prisons and care facilities.

@djdare: The crimes involving very large thefts or very numerous very small thefts are not being reported in the press (I worked for one of the largest banks in the world for 14 years). The former because trust in privacy and security is the main commodity the bank is selling to the large private depositor, The

@Ben Zvan: Where a welding or blacksmith's apron and that won't happen !

@lewis82: a low percentage of businesses are large enough to have a knowlegeable IT staff. To most, advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. They have no idea there is a hard drive in the printer - they just want one that works at the speeds they want without hanging up the sending computer.

Once again, Giz uses "free" loosely. If I have to buy something, the item is NOT free, just bundled in the cost of the main item.

I am at a loss why everyone finds someone going through a mental collapse so humorous. This only reminds me of Albert Finney's character in Paddy Chayevsky's "Network".

So the safety nets are lethal - they just make the cleanup less public!

Next Foxconn mod for worker safety —- (wait for it)——

@Vader582: Frank Lloyd Wright being a prime example. This is the reason mechanical (and other) engineers are involved in architectural design, although it would be nice if architects were more than artists.

1st gen iPods. How is it that they haven't already been fixed as the original lithium batteries only have about a 2 year lifetime(which is the downside of sealed batteries) The other problem is that li-ion batteries are dependent on electronic charging chips to keep them from going into a cascade.

@Future Retro: rules of optics are constant whether the object is of organic or inorganic material, so Depth of Field would vary with aperature similarly (but how far can you see in dark conditions), but exposure time cannot vary as it does in artificial items.

@Ben Zvan: 25 years ago, I used to go on weekend "camping" trips with Sierra club singles groups. I was amazed at the number of women that brought hair dryers with them, but I guess their objective was not the outdoors experience. That being said, there are many levels of "roughing" it. There are those that are tied
