If you haven’t seen it SAO Abridged is fantastic.

I think I only got 3 episodes in to High School of the Dead before I gave up because of the fanservice. The show seemed like it could have been really interesting but it kept getting derailed with the T&A which broke immersion which is a huge mistake, you want immersion.

Not my thing.

Originaly, as in, before it was published, the protagonist was a girl, Sajou Ayaka, and King Arthur was a dude. Takeuchi (the visual designer) sugested Nasu (the author) that in order to appeal to the shonen demographic, they should change the protagonist to a male, and his servant to a woman, since targeting young

I have to ask: what do you think of the fanservice in a show like Yuri on Ice?

To quote the video so you don’t have to watch it: 2:40-3:03

“Where most fan-service works to the detriment of characters, often coming in at random times pulling a 180 on their previously established personality and degrading them to a little more than a sex object through the male gaze of the camera. Monogatari’s

Indeed I do, I’m actually one of those die hard fans that read the whole thing in japanese, like, 20 times over. And yet, I feel like it could have been at least slightly better without the porn.

I liked GATE’s narrative. But, you are correct the harem and masked pedofilia are horrible here. It’s even worse on the manga. The worst of all is that is not needed. The story can stand by itself if you kill those puking second-narratives.

Really it comes down to how gratuitous it is and really for that matter who the target audience is and even then the theme of the anime is an important factor.

You deserve credit for framing the discussion in a way that does not make one side “right” and one “wrong” and that needs to be done more often. I have never been so happy to be wrong before. I like this place and I get a bit bummed out when it gets all shouty here. Nicely done.

As long as it’s not loli or shota and well animated I welcome any and all fanservice.
