I agree. But that's what make his story so intriguing. My guess is that it has something to do with Hitler himself, as John Smith seems to have a special connection with the Fuhrer that protects him from other Nazi leaders.

I agree Joe gets rescued by John Smith (who knows Joe is innocent).

My guess is he hadn't. IMO, he, and his conspirators, thought that Hitler was "off his rocker", had gone soft in his old age, and didn't have what it takes to pull the trigger and finish the plan for world domination. Thus, when killing the Japanese Crown Prince didn't trigger the hoped-for war, they decided not to

Amen.

I think the Trade Minister uses the film to "fool" Kito, who believes that it is a Japanese weapon (the alternate universe theory would be too much for them to accept, as practical military men), and convinces Smith of the same. If the Germans launch nukes, Japan will retaliate with nukes, and both Japan and America

Couldn't agree more.

Another interesting question is how John Smith goes from US military to being a trusted top Nazi officer. Does he really believe in the Nazi cause, or was it a matter of "if I'm in charge, I can make sure even worse things don't happen" (like razing Savannah).

Excellent ending to one of the best series I've ever seen.
