1. What's your take on Cassavetes?

Is this the first time a Hear This has been about a Hatesong?

It's cute that Kanye thinks acting in a predictably outlandish manner will in some way damage his clothing line or personal brand. It's like Andrew WK being concerned about partying too hard.

What I mean is that while I'm agreeing that black people who are particularly outspoken or break established etiquette tend to be treated and labeled differently than white folks displaying similar behavior, that doesn't mean that this is the case here.

While it's true that society tends to look down on "uppity" black people, it's also true that Kanye has a tendency to act like a douchebag. It can be two things.

Isn't there a Toby Keith song where it sounds a whole lot like they're borrowing from Yo La Tengo?

We're not going to see eye to eye here, and that's fine. It's wonderful that you feel enlightened enough to think that accepting the full spectrum of human sexuality is self-evident, but clearly everyone doesn't. Similarly (and perhaps more importantly), I think that the author's take on how she navigates both a

Sorry to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm not sure why I disliked this as much as I did. I like Wyatt Cenac's comedic voice more and more every time I hear it, and John Teti is a reliably witty and entertaining writer/stare-straight-into-the-camera singer, and I hella love game shows. But this felt really

I genuinely enjoyed this a lot. The contrast of his raw voice with the dreamy vocals we're all used to for this song was really nice, and of course his guitar playing was just exactly right.

I agree. It seemed like that album made a pretty big hit with everyone from the marginally-cool-by-comparison preppy kids to hip, attractive record store clerks.

It's fine to not like something, but if you haven't been reading the column, you may not have noticed some of the focused comments that this column disproportionately attracts. Some commenters are straight up trolls who post either directly personal insults or cut-and-paste the same response to many comments (these

TL;DR: You're missing the point a lot.

How about when it's used as a personal noun, as in "he's such an emo". That's the worst.

It's not hard to make at home, and you don't need special equipment—just some way to contain the grounds and water (like a large jar), and some way to filter them (I use a large pour over filter). But I still don't make it a lot, because I like the instant gratification and ritual of waking up and making a cup of

I think this gets at some of the criticism that's leveled at the column's existence, as opposed to its content. "Why does her opinion get featured" seems to have an implied "…but mine doesn't?"

What about side hugs? Those are still cool, right?

Who says a column is supposed to be a nuanced debate? And a debate about what, exactly… her position versus the position of a stranger who screamed at her on public transit? A debate about the pros and cons of PDA on the CTA?

I agree that he's a fine drummer, although "most talented" would go to someone like Damon Che in my opinion. But he does make that face in every band photo. Or perhaps he's both surprised and intrigued by cameras.

As an Old Person, I will asset that the first and second waves were, in fact, totally awesome. Ok, mostly awesome. Ok, sporadically awesome.

I would add that the only thing gother than all white is almost all white with a little touch of pale pink. Going out in pale pink is the throwing down the lace gauntlet of being goth.
