In his story Medusa's Coil, the end horror is that the woman in question was actually a light skinned black person who the protagonist's buddy almost married. It was kind of there in the open. i say this even as a huge fan of his work.

Never scared the crap out of me, but it taught me the concept of impermanence and the endurance of myth, things kids films no longer seem able to do. The theme song haunts me to this day. I get all wistful and melancholy when I hear it. Damn.
