Man, the Irishman might be my favorite film of the year but boy did Once Upon a Time have my favorite film experience. I by chance happen to watch it on the 50th anniversary of the murders, down to the minute.  The audience noticed and freaked the fuck out until what happens happens.  Everyone was up and clapping and

I already know the dumb motherfucker speech and the fish scene are going to have a long internet shelf life. I’m okay with that.  I couldn't be happier at how well the Irishman turned out.

I’d say, arguably, it is his best. It’s pretty singularly focused while touching on a lot of things to say, but it is also the most nihilistic and misanthropic, which is saying a lot for Noe. It’s a lot like Irreversible in that you’ll be glad you watched it once, but probably won’t want to watch it twice. You’ll be

A solid list. And, the selections for #1 and #2 are spot on. I was also happy to see Ad Astra included, as it was probably my favorite movie of the year. Seeing a lot of complaints about it in the comments. I might be biased because I am a huge sucker for meditative and heady sci-fi, with great visuals.

That’s a really weird blurb for Climax. It’s a rough movie watch and pretty disturbing, bordering on gross, yet the only real description given here is “cool dance scenes.” I don’t think that’s supposed to be the takeaway.

YOU ARE WASTING VALUABLE TIME

The last shot of Pesci in The Irishman (playing with the balls in jail) is really devastating. Yes, everyone dies at the end: those who can avoid violence still have to suffer the indignities of old age. It is a terrific film about mortality, Scorsese’s Blackstar.

For me, that “movie” is “Marriage Story” this year. 2 hours of people arguing over whether to live in New York or LA. “we’re a New York family” must have been said a dozen times. Great performances, but it just didn’t get out of its own neurotic head.

I have admire more than loved Rian Johnson’s films until Knives Out. I full on loved this movie. I would say that Knives Out and the The Farewell  are probably the two most enjoyable films of the year, glad to see them both on the list.

I’m sorry, but you’ve been banned from this comment section. We only allow snark and/or vitriol. No positivity allowed.

I used to go to a lot more films, but then I discovered sex. And you know what? Sex is like the movies, sometimes it’s terrible, sometimes great, sometimes sad, sometimes thrilling. There are times when you give a lousy performance, but then nail a great one, sometimes you get a statue as the supporting player,

Exactly. It’s slowly becoming my second favorite film of the year, because it’s a very mature film. Honestly, you could make the argument that the end never happened, except in Rick and Cliff’s brains as they realize things will never be the same.

2+ hours of nothing much happening

This is a solid list. I’ve not seen the irishman (yet) but I really like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The more I think about it, the more i realize there’s a ton going on. I just rewatched it and realized the entire middle scene where they break up the characters is brilliant... a fake Western where the star is

What a delightful year in film this has been.

“And it tears me up inside!”

That was fantastic , practically a “ what if we made an episode of the twilight zone and set it in American Dad.”

If we’re talking American Dad this year, I have to go with Rabbit Ears. What a delightfully weird episode.

yep I watched the first season of saurday night live at 1130 on a sat night as a 6 year old.

A notable exception is made for TV movies, which could rival what you saw on the screen. It’s interesting that networks would give airtime to both The Star Wars Holiday Special and The Execution of Private Eddie Slovik.
