For us boat drivers (LCU) that was the best part! Sure, it made us a bit nervous as well, as it was a great time to get the snot kicked out of us at times, but backing out of the well was something I always looked forward to.
Yeah, in addition to all the extra armor protection that they sometimes bolt on, I couldn’t see that being very practical or any safer. Because those things only barely want to float as it is.
