This review missed that the primary reason that Oswald killed the dishwasher was because the manager told him that there were no jobs available, so Oswald killed someone to open up a spot. The shoes were a bonus and how the show hammered home what happened, if it wasn't sufficiently obvious. The end result being that

No accounting for bad taste, I suppose.

Yep! Branagh excels at directing Shakespeare because he gets the material so deeply. Give him a Thor or a Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and he falls apart. Nothing against him as an actor, of course, but you can't seriously think that Thor was a better looking movie than Man of Steel.

Curious to hear who they'll get for the not-officially-announced movies. Hopefully they'll stick with hiring real directors like Snyder and Nolan, which has provided a nice contrast from the Marvel model.

You should go watch Blade and Superman: the Movie. The first Fantastic Four had this with the Human Torch, but I can't recommend actually watching that movie.

They don't really get the Hulk either. The whole point of the character is repressed rage exploding outwards uncontrollably, and they gave us one movie before making him a hero with Banner in control.

Given their history of hiring real directors for the DC movies (Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder, even Martin Campbell as bad as Green Lantern was) makes it pretty clear that they aren't confusing anybody with the borderline-incompetent (behind the camera) Joss Whedon.

Bingo. Man of Steel only has problems if you care about the established character of Superman (which you shouldn't). It's an excellent film otherwise. Star Trek Into Darkness is a bad movie whether you were a fan or not. Abrams can't come close to matching Snyder's talent and style.

Nah, commenting on a relevant, prominent art form is worthy of consideration. A blanket dismissal of that is ridiculous.

Video game cutscenes are terrible because they're poorly written. The idea that people skip them because they look shitty is absurd.

You go from "maybe it's supposed to look like a video game" to talking about the writing. Did you actually read the quote?

Well, stampece called Snyder a "neo-fascist" on the basis of 300, which is actually a satire of fascism. So, that's one example of the point of 300 being missed.

“Also, ‘It looks like a video game.’ Well, maybe it's supposed to look like a video game.” - Zack Snyder

The quality of an idea is not determined by its speaker but on its relation to external reality. This is basic reasoning.

300 is a satire of fascist propaganda. Admittedly, moviegoers have a long history of missing satire when delivered as an action movie (Starship Trooper, etc.).

Nobody's ideas are above criticism, and nobody is beneath having the right to put their opinion forward. It's flatly anti-intellectual to believe otherwise. In this case, I think Terry Gilliam is in the wrong. But, more important than what my opinion is, is that it's at least based on the actual ideas expressed and

Terry Gilliam has never made a movie as good as Man of Steel. 12 Monkeys is close, but not quite as beautiful.

No, dude's excellent. His movies are excellent. Relying on reviews is for people unwilling to actually watching a film and forming their own opinions.

Yeah, Terry Gilliam has made some fine movies, but his proposed change is bananas and I take Snyder's comment as reflecting nothing more than that: protecting Watchmen from people who aren't interested in doing a faithful adaption.

Using Metacritic to determine the quality of a movie is like determining the height of the President by asking everyone in America and averaging the result. Sucker Punch is, admittedly, not great, more of an interesting failure. The rest of his catalog is superb, though.
