It’s more than racism. It’s anti-government terrorism.

I’ve wondered this as well. I live in upstate NY, you know, a true confederate heritage area. Often, my wife and I will see the confederate flag on trucks (why always pickups?), and each time we look at each other and say “Oh look! A racist!!”

“It’s hertitage not hate” while ignoring it’s a heritage of hate.

Don’t ever ask a confederate flag sympathizer “what more do you want?”. Unless you like making your ears bleed from unbridled racism.

Freedom of Speech doesn’t protect you from another US Citizen saying “I don’t like the thing you are saying.” It protects you from the government locking you in jail cause you said that thing. The guy who tackled the flag waving racist went to jail and paid a fine. There was no government action against the flag…

Or an asshole musician who thinks he’s a rebel re: Kid Rock. Music’s bottom feeder.

They are like the teenager who wants to live on his own, but still get an allowance from his parents.

Waving a confederate flag is a figurative punch in the face. If you wave it, you should expect (and probably are hoping for) blowback.

I’m at the point now where I think we should tell any of these states that want to leave the Union to go ahead. We won’t put up a fuss--just take your ball and be your own independent nation. Then we can watch while they try to figure out how to operate without any of the literally billions of dollars they got from us…

I understand what you are saying, but I’d imagine that to a black person, a white guy waving the Confederate flag is a message of “I wish that you black people were once again property of white people.”
