Educate yourself. Riley has been in terrific rap group called Coup for about 20 years—he manage to write catchy, up-tempo songs with scathing left-wing political messages. Then he wrote and directed Sorry To Bother You, best movie of 2018, which manage to simultaneously be Spike Lee-type political polemic (except more

Not trying to be snarky, but how else would you pronounce ooh là là?

Otis Redding was also in his backup band as a teenager. His opening act before the Beatles was Sam Cooke. And on that tour with the Stones, the other openers were Bo Diddley and the Everly Brothers. If you wanted to make an Avengers-style movie about rock and roll, Little Richard is both Nick Fury and Tony Stark.

Let’s be fair here — he didn’t make his fortune in real estate. His parents committed half a billion dollars in tax fraud (including paying 3-year-old Donald a $200,000 salary), and he inherited the results. As has always been the case, the easiest way to “make” a fortune in this country is to already have one.

If you got an random text message from tech company that said “I predict your wife is gonna dump you in 5-to-7 years” would you react by immediately burning cars and/or hanging yourself?

“Rehoboam controls lives by...arranging a situation” Sure but my problem is they only tell us that. Besides the one momentary scene where Caleb gets rejected from a job interview by an automated recording - we don’t really see Rehob in action. We just get Dolores telling us (Caleb) “It stole your life!” etc. So that

HBO, we need to get back to the park.

Oh fuck off, Barsanti.

wonder why they’re highlighting all those giallos? how weird. like 50 of them come and go every month

It’s funny, I’ve been doing this for almost seven years and have spent the whole time thinking, “does this really fit in on a pop culture web site?”

sounds like a weird 60s version of Hitler’s “Entartete Kunst” (Degenerate Art) exhibit at the Haus der Deutsche Kunst (House of German Art) in Munich back in the 30s. Hitler meant to showcase the perversity and insufferability of popular forms of art like cubism, the Blue Rider movement, among others, and works

The Vadim segment doesn’t star just one Fonda, but two: Peter is the male lead whom Jane is supposed to be lusting after. Per wikipedia, their characters are supposed to be cousins (like Poe and his actual wife) rather than siblings.

The right way is to have Thomas and Martha Wayne out of focus in the background of every shot in the movie, being gunned down.

THANK YOU I’ve listened to this dang thing three times and haven’t heard any mention of “that scabby cat with the garden-shear digits.”

Good catch. It’s always fun to find all the sly references that Dylan inserts into his best songs.  Can’t wait to make my way through what seems to be a multitude of them in this new Dylan epic.

I have one minor geographical quibble. One need not cross the Trinity River to get from Dealey Plaza to Parkland Hospital, then or now.

I don’t know if I agree with that. Sociopolitical subtext was a key component of many films made by “New Hollywood” directors like Friedkin in the late ‘60s-early ‘70s. It’s what he and others like Coppola, Penn, Bogdonavich, etc. took from European directors like Godard, Antonioni and Clouzot (Friedkin’s fave). And

Saving Private Ryan is weird because one overall impression is a very cold-blooded perspective on war — the random carnage, the scenes of surrendering Germans getting slaughtered — but it is framed with such a shameless flag waving container

I honestly don’t think anybody involved in this movie has ever played a video game, or is even entirely clear on what video games are. One of the craziest things about the twist is that the movie is a moded fishing simulator.
