I’m rather intrigued by this one. The art design and central hook are strong, but that’s a long playtime for a platformer. GameXplain recently took the opposite perspective to the one above, finding the mid-game twist a blemish on an otherwise compelling experience. Curious to hear more about The Messenger, as

I finished Resident Evil 2 FOUR TIMES. Got two D ranks and two B ranks (in that order). I love learning the room layout and enemy placements, only to have them change up on you in alternate play throughs. So many of the scares are, paradoxically, based on apparent familiarity, so you really wonder how the presumably

This week has largely been dedicated to a single game for me (as I’ve been writing about games more than playing them):

There's something to this - I don't think anything more than the firing needed to occur, and the idea of folks harassing him and his family on social media is disgusting. Kotaku reporting on it is still quite reasonable, though: the guy did make a public video response and specifically called out Kotaku in it.

That makes sense - he’d be foolish (legally speaking) to do a video openly admitting the plagiarism. Still, he could have just, and this is a downright crazy idea, not made any video on the topic.

Thanks for covering this, Jason. It’s wild to think that Miucin targeted you specifically in his response, but I’m glad you (and the games media more generally) are answering this with frankly irrefutable evidence. Thanks!

This weekend I’ll mostly be playing Okami. I skipped much of it’s unreasonably long intro last night, as I’ve seen it a lot over the ears and think I recall the story pretty well, so now I’m into the game. I have to say - playing this on the Switch feels like the way the game was meant to be. Utterly spellbinding and

I’ve been writing a weekly column on the history of game franchises... elsewhere... and I'm wondering, given your niche tastes, if you know of any good comprehensive history articles/videos on the Monkey Island, Blackwell or King's Quest series? I've almost entirely avoided this beloved format of adventure games over

Thanks!

This is completely fascinating!

Good gracious, this is wonderful news. Thanks for working your way back to us! Looking forward to reading your work again.

Yup, me too.

Oh geez, this might actually have me tearing up over here. I'm so sorry to hear you're departing, Matt, but grateful for all you've done. I can genuinely say that my life would be less rich without the civil, thoughtful community that grew up around the Gameological Society. I'm looking forward to following your
