Wow, my wife and I also asked for Bet Buy gift cards this Christmas, though ours are being directed toward the forthcoming Nintendo Switch release. On the one hand, it's kind of a bummer getting stuff you can't use for months, but on the other hand, it makes what would otherwise be challenging (justifying a Day-One

This weekend I'm down with a head cold, so I'll be doing a fair amount of game-playing. Better jump into something heavy - Dark Souls 3. I haven't made any progress on that this week, but last I played (on New Year's Day, I think), I had gotten to Farron Keep. The Deacons of the Deep were delightfully straightforward

Oh, that's alarming! Still, I guess it's not too big of a deal if the stuff is still running and the laptop isn't getting crazy-hot.

Sure, I can help with the Porygon evolution. I have an Oranguru (I think), and will breed the fossil monsters I have - I don't think I have access to an Archeops, or whatever that one's called, but the others are all on the table. I may not be available tonight - tomorrow would be better - but send me a message or

Weird, I had a couple by the time I completed the game. I think I just got lucky with some wild monsters holding them upon capture. Let me know if you need any trades.

It's the weirdest criticism, but I so wish Magnolia had a French accent in the voiced cutscenes. It's strangely jarring to see her mutter some French phrase and then move back into her American accent. That said, I agree with you wholeheartedly - for being a reasonably low-key group of characters, they have just the

Funny enough, I've only kind of vaguely browsed the lore. I like that it exists, but it's not a major factor in the games for me. I find they are great at setting the right tone without delving too heavily into specifics - it's a little like a David Lynch movie, in that way. The third entry definitely has the finest

Oh yeah, The Witness does not sound like it will be a positive experience for you. It actually has some of the least narrative I've encountered in a game (which I appreciated, but not everyone will). Basically, the only "reward" for completing puzzles is more puzzles, so if that doesn't sound appealing, it might be

No kidding, MM didn't work for you? Oh well - it is one of the cool aspects of the Zelda series that the games are different enough that there's one for everyone, haha.

Is there a bigger, shocking upset in 2016 Gaming Coverage than Devil Daggers as RPS' game of the year? Weird, right? I read their retrospective, as well as their original review, and I still don't have any interest. I like to hear your opinion on here, so be sure to share with us what your experience of the game is in

I got Steam Cards/eShop cards, which were used to buy Dark Souls 3, Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor, and Darkest Dungeon. Planning to use my eShop bucks to get Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero.

My wife was reading my the reviews, along with the commenters names, and I was surprised to hear that a "Cactuar" was also active on Gameological. Not impossible, but rather surprising. Glad to hear that I'm familiar enough with this comment community to notice when something's askew, haha.

YAAAAAAAY, another one of my year-end amateur reviews made it onto Keyboard Geniuses' annual retrospective! Thanks AVClub :)

Cool to hear of Endless Ocean getting played. One of the main reasons I got a souped-up PC was to emulate that game, since it remains unreleased and un-sequeled on an HD platform. Haven't gotten around to it yet, but I'm excited to explore the deep!

Yeah, when I was painting everything to 100% at the end of the game, my paint supply did run low (and even out) on occasion.

Oh OK. That makes sense - I don't follow movie stuff too closely, but it did seem a bit early for Oscar nomination releases.

(1) Pretty good, though honestly I'm caught in the holiday interim valley of reduced productivity.

I was this close to picking up Hearts of Iron IV instead of Darkest Dungeon and Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor, but I primarily play PC games on my TV and am not enthused about either (a) switching to playing on my less-than-powerful laptop or (b) moving my desktop PC up to our office and plugging it into a monitor,

Hahaha, fair enough.
