Yeah, my last three points come from the frustration I've had to deal with as a member of said "community," especially from my fellow members. Just as with any other class, there is a lot of infighting within it. Far too many transpeople seem to put "the surgery" on the pedestal, for example, as though it's an end

If I could promote this I would. This is WHY a trans-inclusive safety bill should be made into law. And now I'm going to ruin it all by wording it crudely, but everybody needs to be able to piss in peace.

In the name of education I'll answer this question, but before I do, I feel the need to emphasize that it is irrelevant to the case (you don't beat up anyone, regardless of their genetic makeup) and, to make matters worse, is what some people use to justify their hatred and place blame on the victim.

What Sir Beefychu said, this article is cross-posted on Jezebel, Gawker, GawkerTV, and Gizmodo. I didn't look to see if it was on Lifehacker though.

"While it's not the transgendered community's responsibility to raise awareness for the sake of fair treatment, I think it will take a lot more open transgenderism for relatively open guys like my housemates to begin to distinguish yet treat equally and comfortably. "

And the comments on that Smoking Gun article make me weep for humanity.

Short version: By telling the assailaints to run and avoid the police, he A) was an accomplice to the assault, and B) caused liability (not just bad press) for the franchisee/company. There's a lot more to it than that, but that's the super-short version.

Varies wildly by state and locality. Some places have made such "bathroom bills" into laws, but few are actually enforced (see below). I recall some places in Florida, Missouri, and Texas being particularly problematic.

I apologize to the other readers if continuing to comment in this trainwreck of a thread is bad form, but when things like this happen to somebody for being a member of a specific class (in this case, being trans), it is in essence a threat to all members of that class. This is why hate crimes are prosecuted as a form

The Boba Fett on a unicorn reminded me of Stephen Colbert's "Monkey on the Lam" series.

That's how I am with New Zealand accents.

I know, it pissed me off for much the same reasons, but even worse because it wasn't even for BEING, but for merely being PERCEIVED as...

"Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?"

"Of course, while I don't think many media groups do it maliciously, there's no question that there are a lot of groups who are heavily invested in making abortion as grotesque and monstrous as possible."

How about the Exiles?

Thank you for doing what I was too pissed off to do.

I am torn between wanting to make comments of outrage and wanting to post funny pictures from / referencing "But I'm a Cheerleader" and the South Park episode where Butters gets sent to an anti-gay camp.

A thousand times this, and I don't care if the desire to put him into the failure that is the punitive systems makes me a bad person. Sexual assault and blackmail should earn him a quick trip into juvie. Instead, the secretary is getting punished for something that is quite legal.
