It’s even worse than that. Not only do the “poorest and most vulnerable” not have any worth in this system, but for quite a few years now the GOP is pretty clear that they don’t even give a fuck about the actual middle class, either. At this point, they are only working for the wealthy.

Businesses are run with only the bottom line and enrichment of investors/stockholders in mind.

For years I flew as a pass rider, and I had to follow strict dress and behavioral codes when I did. As many have mentioned, this is standard policy, and the gate agent shouldn’t be singled out for staying on-script.

To me, it just seems like one of those areas where there’s still a sort of bottom-line standard—nicer than athletic wear—that both men and women are expected to reach.

Jesus H. Fucking Christ. When will we learn that business ideals (i.e. you vs. me) will never work in human endeavors? This is a gross and tawdry and hurtful experiment.

“I promised the American people I would produce results, and apply my ‘ahead of schedule, under budget’ mentality to the government.”

My guess is that the policy was written in like, the 80s when all leggings were spandex and obnoxious and the gate agent just didn’t want to get into trouble or lose her job over pants.

Basically, it seems that the majority of the dress rules are directed towards the female employees and their female children. United should really take a second look at the assumptions underlying this list.

So it isn’t the gate agent, but the policy that’s blatantly sexist.

Not really. Not when another, (male) pass rider under the same requirements was wearing shorts. Their dad, I believe? Anyway, it shows an unequal application of the same standard amongst different genders.

Leggings are the way, the truth, and the light.

In reading the dress code that another commenter posted, it seems to give far more latitude to the men: shorts are allowed if they are no more than three inches above the knee — but no miniskirts at all. No spandex pants or dresses (hence the leggings issue) seems to be aimed at the women (I don’t recall too many men

Since the issue for United is the employee dress code for people flying on employee passes, I wouldn’t be mad if they’d made the dad change too. They have every right to require that people who work for them meet a certain level of formality when redeeming a benefit.

How is it any skin off your ass if some employees’ kid was wearing leggings. The policy is outdated and wrong and needs to be changed irregardless of whose kid it was applied to.

Dad was allowed on with cargo shorts.

That is absolue bullshit. Those passes are OWED to employees and their family, and absolutely should not be licsense for the employer to have a say in what they wear. Especially when they are flying for leisure and not on duty. They can’t govern someone’s personal choices like that. Certainly not children who don’t

Why are 10yr olds being held to formal dress codes?

No, it is still ridiculous. They are children who were fully clothed, also the father who was let on was not meeting the dress code either.

They singled out a little girl wearing leggings but had no problem with her dad wearing cargo shorts. Do you not see the problem? Really?

My elementary school-aged daughter has decided that all traditional pants are “terrible” and “make my belly hurt” and will only wear elastic-waisted leggings/stretch pants/knits. She wants comfort as she tree-climbs, karate-kicks, and army-crawls her way through 1st Grade and I cannot blame her.
