Exactly. Lawyers don’t pull shit like this if they don’t already know people will buy it.

I said this at an earlier post and I will have to repeat it:
And not only have they made an effort to be accessible, this is also part of a larger movement. This is the same group who organized the March, and their 10/100 actions are usually smaller things that people can do to help out if they can’t take a day off work and/or travel, like write-ins to Congresspeople. I…
This is also the same group that planned the women’s march. And has called for huddles, and write-ins to Congresspeople, and other things that people of all socio-economic backgrounds can support. This is one arm of a movement, and if not everyone can do everything, that is fine.
I’ve already seen some! They aren’t 100% wrong, like striking is not feasible for many women, but don’t be mad at the women who can and choose to strike. We aren’t attempting to shame those who can’t, and the strike made an effort to be accessible in some way for all.
I know. I keep seeing all these posts about how people can’t afford to miss the day but...that is kind of the point of strikes and boycotts. They’re supposed to be inconvenient and difficult.
I am sure there are already a million think pieces typed up talking about how the Women’s Strike is terrible, horrible feminism and that everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves, just waiting to hit “publish.” (not that these things are above criticism, nor should they be, but sometimes it feels like we can’t…
Bumping this.
Right? Attorneys who starfuck are bad enough, but starfucking a mediocre MMA fighter who was briefly prominent 5 years ago? You’re better than that, dude. Everyone is better than that.
Hey, I’m a teacher from a school that is (partially) closing tomorrow in observance of the strike (some parents and teachers are volunteering to provide backup care to families who cannot get childcare) . I am seeing a lot of comments here and on other websites calling striking teachers selfish, or getting mad that…
Nope women are better
One answer to the slander that this is for “privileged” women is linked below.
I agree with you, but it’s not just concern trolls who harbor some of these ideas. I’ve seen plenty of otherwise fine progressives bitch about this strike as being a game to rich white women.
Thank you for at least having a constructive comment. I do feel too much of the time the left does no do work into fully planning something out.
Yea, I find it so interesting that these commenters have so much to say about how “bougie” this strike is, but forget that they are commenting on a page about female educators striking. Last time I checked teachers are underpaid and overworked, so you know super fucking bougie. I understand that for the most part…
I think a lot of people need to educate themselves a bit on the history of general strikes. It’s not about nor has it ever been about the privileged. It’s been about the working class sacrificing the loss of a day’s pay and benefits because it was worth it to try and fight to receive fair wages and working…
Strikes require massive infrastructure in order to ensure participation. There is no formula for a workable strike that is made up of privileged pockets of engagement from those wealthy enough to sacrifice. The sacrifice of the wealthy needs to be ongoing. They need to ensure the poor women who skip work have a…
This. My brother is a public defender who has dealt some truly tragic cases. Yet he defends them and puts his effort into doing so without resorting to BS social media grossness like this. Fuck this dude, fuck his defense attorney. May he rot in jail and may his attorney be disbarred.
I have my limit as well. I’m generally all for defendants’ rights. But defense attorneys trotting out sexual histories, what the woman was wearing at the time, how many drinks she had, if she’d consented to have sex with this man before, etc. Using and perpetuating the commonly held beliefs found in rape culture and…
I expect this from a defense attorney with no other real options. The judge should be ashamed for allowing it.
