There are some chapter books with substantially fewer illustrations out there. I remember reading some as a kid.

Currently reading "The Force" by Don Winslow. It's good so far, as I'd expect from Winslow. I'm trying to keep myself to a limit of 50 pages a day, since it's due back at the library next Monday and I estimated 50 pages a day of a 400-odd page book would have me finished by then, but I'm currently less than 200 pages…
