Weirdly I found Phantasy Star 4 the weakest in the series, beaten by 1 & 2 (I still get upset thinking about Nei). 3 was the black sheep but I still enjoyed it. 4 felt kinda soulless. Then again I also preferred FFIV to VI so go figure.

Yes, several times over. If i recall you had to be sneaky at the start but later on had decent firepower. So, it got easier further in (and more fun, especially in the 3d areas)
