I think the Arrow showrunners are more excited by Ray because of the possibility of shrinking, but he is still in pseudo-Ted mode; that is, "Ray" is still living out Ted's story. Otherwise Ray and his powers should have appeared on the Flash instead. What with this whole veiled talk about another potential (unnamed)

Totally agree. Except it won't be humorless Ted, it will be humorless Jaime, which is worse. Geoff Johns said he saw test footage and loved it. Note also he loves the New 52.

They had also name dropped Kord, which is basically how Arrow does foreshadowing (see also: Ras al Ghul). I'm currently listening closely for who gets mentioned next so I know what season four will be about.

This might be mentioned elsewhere, but Ray Palmer/The Atom was supposed to be Ted Kord/Blue Beetle, which explains inventor/armored vigilante rather than inventor/tiny dude. Apparently DC shot it down because they have "big plans" for Blue Beetle.

Admittedly more on the science side, Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series is excellent science fantasy.

I've been obsessed with JL/JLU for a decade. It's been on constant repeat in my house.

You never go full Gotham!

Thank you Professor McGonigall. You can transform back into a person now.

And he was a casual racist!

The movies are poor representations of these ideas. I actually thought after the first movie Hogwarts was in another magical dimension a la Narnia. But there was definitely a scene in one of the last movies where dark wizards twist a bridge and kill them some muggles. It's explained a little better in the books that

The tantalizing idea early in the books of a secret history (with magic!) to WWII didn't really pan out so well by the end.

Men are from Manchester, Dementors are from Woking.

Im pretty sure Wormtail was notated as "Peter Pettigrew". That notation drives the plot. But, excellent question. Peter was generally only visible on the map when he was solo. Maybe Peter and Ron's flags overlapped when they were together. They should have zoomed in, like on Google Maps to get more detail.

Or you're not a team player, and grab it for the glory of the Empire.

Yeah it's possible to catch the snitch and still lose, if your team was at least 151 points down. The movies aren't clear on that part. There's a match in the books where Harry has to wait to catch it until his team scores a little higher.
Yes, I'm 38. Why do you ask?

Or the crushing ennui of being a grown-up wizard where instead of a lifetime of wonder in a magical world, you still have to work a menial (magic!) job and struggle to raise your kids.

If you're into the whole Star Wars/Joseph Campbell hero's journey, the books and movies are creatively post-modern with all those familiar elements (like what Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series did with the now overdone Tolkien world). It's obviously aimed younger, but it manages a kind of Wizard of Oz kind of

Well, the show used the vampirism soul/no soul metaphor differently depending on what it was trying to say about the character. With Angel, hes a person who behaved terribly for most of his youth, having to deal with the guilt-inducing hindsight of age (befitting his series as a metaphor for your 20's and 30's). With

And to clarify a few things, Buffy season 4 is arguably the show's shark jump, although I think it's really just the first bad season after a show outlives its mission statement (in this case, High School is Hell). We all know by now shows set in high school don't fare any better after graduation than any of us did.
