It’s very weird to attribute how many people tuned in to a show on a particular night to the episode’s content; people didn’t tune in to TLOU because they knew what they were in for. Y’all did the same thing with House of the Dragon’s incest episode.

wahhh my oscar bait movie that no one saw about a black person getting brutalized and murdered (Oscar voters and guilty white libs are supposed to eat this up tho!!) didn’t get nominated. My plan didn’t work! Therefore you’re all racist and sexist!! {Btw to anyone saying “but Till got good reviews”, do you really

Of the seven women nominees for Best Director in the Oscars’ 95-year history, only two have won: Chloe Zhao (Nomadland) and Jane Campion (The Power Of The Dog).

Kathryn Bigelow won the Oscar for Direction for The Hurt Locker.  Did the AV club really forget that one?

Hmm, not sure I agree with the word choice in the first line of the “No Black Women nominated for Best Actress” snub. Wait—don’t run away! While the Academy has a long, very deplorable history of not nominating people of color throughout its history, the sentence above reads like it’s expected a Black actor will get

I had a hell of a time trying to parse the headline before realizing “kicked off Sundance” meant she started the event and not that she had been removed from some kind of panel or something at Sundance because of her comments.

Fucking christ with you guys and Scorcese.

Imagine you’ve never seen a 3D movie outside of the local Science Center’s showing of some documentary about kelp. Then watch a pretty decent James Cameron SUPER EXPLODY movie shown in 3D that is a massive technological step beyond said kelp movie. It was absolutely fucking rad and I saw it three times. I so appreciate her answer to that last question. As a consumer of narrative and teacher of screenwriters, I’m always hyper aware of and resistant to “message” stories. It’s partly a matter of taste but I also think that when an artist tries too hard to Say Something Important they distract themselves and the audience

He’s conflating representation and talent. Everyone deserves the former, he’s never demonstrated the latter.

Oh boy. You just smoke-signaled some of the internet’s scoldiest scolds.

Then, Wilde spoke to all of us on the internet, gleefully soaking up the drama: ‘As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, the Internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute; I think it’s sufficiently well-nourished.’”

Fetishizing victimhood isn’t necessarily new but has definitely been taken to the next level in more recent years, and accusing people of deliberately trying to inflict psychological trauma (gaslighting etc.) has become so common it doesn’t even mean anything at this point. And yes it’s fair to say this is more

and they’d be right.

Just a small request then we’ll all move on. Can we not have a movie title where someone “rises” ever again? Thanks so much. Have a nice day.

So...

And, really, we could leave it right there (Maybe for good! That would be nice!)

wow I didn’t realize how much I’d miss Perkins

It’s not like the people who are discriminating against/assaulting Asians are going to watch this movie. If this is the artistic vision of an Asian writer/director/cast, who am I to say no?

tropes that appear in the film are directly responsible for the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes
