Just want to mention "Beat It" by Michael Jackson for Eddie Van Halen guitar solo and the masturbation reference (since guitar solos are usually wanky in nature).

David Bowie had quite a few good guitarists playing great solos for him. Mick Ronson on Moonage Daydream. Robert Fripp on Joe the Lion. Stevie Ray Vaughan on Let's Dance.

Lou Reed's secret talent is his guitar solos. There's a lot of great work on "Velvet Underground and Nico", on "All Tomorrow's Parties" and "European Son". Obviously "Sister Ray" from the second album is also fantastic.

Eric's Trip - Sonic Youth
Keep on Growing - Derek and the Dominoes
Rolling People - Verve
I Am the Resurrection - Stone Roses
Paradise City - Guns n Roses
Girlfriend - Matthew Sweet

For me the classic Steely Dan guitar solo is Kid Charlemagne. The coda of Bodhisattva is also pretty fun.

You forgot about this one: Screamadelica by Primal Scream, off the Dixie Narco EP.

"he does the military two-step down the nape of my neck / I wanna go home / I don't want to stay / give up life as a bad mistake"

"If it's not love then it's the bomb that will bring us together."

Stuff just gets labelled "pretentious" if it sucks. Radiohead doesn't get labelled pretentious as much as Yes. Bebop doesn't get labelled pretentious as well as much as ELP. Why? Maybe because what they do makes more musical sense than a lot of prog rock?

A real Malay would have used a machete on that coconut.

I'm a Singaporean and I endorse this remark.

Nice try. But I like Michael Caine's version better. Even Roy Orbison's is second to Michael Caine's.
